Volkswagen Polo GTI Design

The Polo has been a smart looking hatchback and the GT TSI version looks the same save for some minor changes. There is a prominent GT badge on the front grille, GT TSI sticker work on the C pillar and GT and TSI badge on the rear on either side. The alloy wheel design is slightly different though we would have loved to see this hot baby with the SR kit that the Polo SR comes with and/or a different contrast color for the roof for that sporty touch! It comes in three colour choices candy white, flash Red and deep black.

Volkswagen Polo GTI Cabin

The Volkswagen Polo GTI interior has sporty front seats with enlarged bolster and height adjustment, while the rear seats offer a 60:40 fold function. The seat trim covers are finished in fabric ‘Clark’ with GTI signature red colour strips and stitching. There is a sporty flat-bottomed leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with ‘GTI’-inscribed red stitching and paddle shifters. The company engineers have provided a plethora of storage compartments in the hatch in the form of drawers under the front seats, sunglass, coins, card and pen holders inside the glove box, bottle holders in the front doors, map pockets at the back of the front seats, coat hooks at the rear, etc., to mention a few.

The front centre console houses a 12 V outlet to charge your smartphone. It gets hill start assist, cooled glove box, start/stop system with generative braking, cruise control, climatronic air conditioning system and luggage compartment lighting. A music system with 6 speakers, and Aux-in, USB and Bluetooth connectivity is a standard feature on the hatch.

Volkswagen Polo GTI Gearbox

The Volkswagen GTI is powered by a 1,798 cc turbocharged petrol engine. It generates 189 hp of power from 5,400 rpm to 6,200 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1,250 rpm and 5,300 rpm. The engine has been tuned for maximum performance, however, has a reasonable fuel efficiency figure as well.In the Volkswagen GTI, the turbocharged petrol engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The claimed figure in which 100 kmph is crossed from standstill is 7.2 seconds. The transmission has smooth gear changes and is as good as a manual transmission in terms of the gear changes.Claimed fuel efficiency of the Volkswagen GTI is 16.47 kmpl which is impressive considering the hatchback has been tuned for performance. This performance results in a top speed of 233 kmph (Claimed). Check for Volkswagen Polo GTI in kotra.in

Volkswagen Polo GTI Driving

It has a sedan like ride quality and gives you a feeling of a luxury car and ride quality is that of a sedan from a higher price range. It absorbs all the bumps, potholes and remains steady and comfortable for everyone in the car.The retuned suspension system comes to rescue of the Polo GTI, as far as the handling is concerned. However, the steering could have been made a bit more responsive. It performs amazingly with brisk acceleration

Volkswagen Polo GTI Safety

Volkswagen Polo GTI features disc brakes at the front as well as rear, of which calipers are painted in a bright red paint scheme. It gets an array of high-end safety systems, such as ESC, ABS, ASR, EDL and EDTC. The company is offering 6 airbags as standard equipment in the hatch. Volkswagen Polo GTI Conclusion

Considering the Volkswagen Polo GTI price in India, it is purely made for hardcore high-adrenaline junkies and it has very less to do with a common car buyer. The 3-door high-performance hatch is sold as limited edition in India with just 99 units on sale, and to be honest, this strategy could work wonders for the company and soon the whole stock might be sold out.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Facelift Review & Test Drive

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Overview

It’s a known fact that India has one of the youngest population in the world, and that is one of the strong points for the growth of our economy in the future. A younger workforce generally produces more advancement in both technology and productivity and that is something that policymakers and industry alike are relying on to propel future growth. However, this young population is a bigger attraction to companies that are looking to sell products in the Indian market, and as one would expect Maruti Suzuki is targeting this upcoming, young populace which they term as ‘Millenials’.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Now according to Maruti, Millenials have very strong preferences in their purchases and so the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has been created to appeal to them with traits that are unique for a Maruti product. Design wise, we get pretty funky styling that tends to stand out from other products in the Maruti lineup. The aggressive front, paired with the tall styling and flared wheel arches give the car a quasi-SUV presence. When viewed in profile, two things stand out, the sharp rake of the roof as it nears the boot and the triple slats on the C-pillar, which is a unique design touch. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Exterior

The car hasn’t deviated from the way it looked as a concept and that’s much appreciated. It’s the design that gets your attention first. LED DRLs, we’ve seen those before but LED headlamps too? That’s a first for Maruti and a first for the segment. The Ignis is a very Japanese design, quirky, funky and stands out of the crop of small hatchbacks on our roads. Boxy exteriors but more rounded at the edges, a wide and continuous grille integrates the headlamps too, a gentle shoulder line running from the front fender and curving upward at the C-pillar and, flared wheel arches, don’t we love those?

The rear infuses retro-cool to this otherwise contemporary design. The progressive triad mark (three slats on the C-pillar)is a throwback to the Seventy’s Suzuki hatchback and the slanting rear window and tail-gate reminisces the Suzuki SS80. Look at it from the side and it all comes together as a sporty and fresh looking car sitting 180mm off the ground. It doesn’t fall into any specific body type but that trait alone makes it unique. 15-inch alloy-wheels in black look cool but wider tyres would’ve looked sportier given the minimal overhangs.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior

Enter the cabin and you will be welcomed by a clean and seamless design. And unlike many other Maruti cars, the cabin is airy, functional and follows minimalistic approach. The dashboard seems to have been designed like a clam with the top and bottom layer separated by thin black layer which seamlessly goes across the end other end house ac vents and touchscreen infotainment in between. The dual tone black and white dashboard really lifts up the spirits inside as it looks eye catching.

Spending some time inside will get you realize that certain areas seem to be a bit much. For example, the ac vents are rectangular-ly placed towards the center while the outer ones are rounded in shape and finished in faux carbon-fibre. Then the door pads are similarly dual toned like that of dashboard while the surrounds for the floor console and the grab handles of the door pads are colour coded. But the lighter colour is expected to get dirty easily. And what is unique in this vehicle is that there isn’t any kind of central console which we use to call the stuff at the middle. Where the lower variants get 2-DIN stereo system, the top of the line variants features free-standing 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with the air controls getting separate slot below. The infotainment gives host of connectivity options including USB, Bluetooth and Aux-In. The same display can also double up for displaying visuals from the rear parking camera. Then there is all new instrument cluster featuring two analogue dials and the one at the far right with digital MID display giving all the relevant vehicle info in real time including instant and average mileage, outside temperature, two trip meters and current time.

Coming to the steering wheel, Maruti has given an entirely new unit for that chunky and youthful feeling. It comes with mounted audio controls giving easy access to vital functions of the car. The automatic climate control works quite well and takes a few minutes to cool down the cabin. There are plenty of storage spaces all across the cabin so there is no dearth of practicality.

Despite small proportions, the Maruti Ignis is quite spacious. And the credit for this goes to the tall boy design which allows plenty of headroom to the occupants. There is also sufficient knee and leg room, however, only two adult passengers would feel comfortable at the back, adding a third one might make the space a little cramped. On the other hand, the rear doors have been made in such a way that they make ingress and egress quite easier for the passengers. And with 260L of boot space, Ignis assure luggage for short weekend trips. Further, the 60:40 rear bench split can spare more room for extra luggage.Other comfort features includes push button start, electronic adjustable/foldable ORVM, rear seat adjustable head restraints, day and night IRVM and driver seat height adjustability. Overall, there are oomph factors in the Ignis which makes it a unique vehicle among its class.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Performance

Driving the car will leave you more than impressed. Maruti-Suzuki has gone the tried and tested way with a choice of a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motors on offer. These engines have served a number of Maruti cars for years now and have proven their reliability, efficiency and performance.

What’s more is that AMT options are available on both engines. The petrol engine uses variable valve timing, making 82bhp and 113Nm of torque. Characteristically, this engine is peaky in nature and starts to sing post 4,000rpm where progress is rapid with an affable Suzuki engine note. At idle, this engine is so silent and refined you’d have to put in some effort to hear it run. The refinement remains on the move as there were no vibrations to speak of even as speeds built up. We only drove the manual variant and it shifts positively with solid clicks from gear to gear.

The diesel engine has been well known for its frugality and adequate power delivery. In the Ignis, this engine develops 75bhp and 190Nm, compensating the deficit in horsepower over the petrol variant. The diesel definitely felt faster and more responsive at lower revs. Turbo-lag is controlled and once over 2,000rpm, it keeps pulling effortlessly in each gear.Maruti claims to have tweaked the AMT transmission to shift quicker and it showed through as up-shifts were more timely and accurate to throttle inputs than the AMT-equipped Dzire diesel.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Driving

One thing was clear, Maruti’s engineers have cracked the ride and handling balance for Indian conditions and that becomes apparent with every new product that they launch in India. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is quite a pleasure to drive in urban conditions, with the 1.2-litre petrol engine giving the car a very peppy feel. The NVH levels on the car are very well controlled and the petrol engine makes a nice intake sound when revved; at the same time it delivers ample grunt to make the Ignis a fun car to drive. The raised seating position also helps visibility and along with the large glasshouse makes the car a breze to drive when in traffic or busy streets. The ride quality of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is quite interesting as it tends to be a bit on the firm side, but handles broken roads and potholes with aplomb. The large 15” wheels also help matters, and along with decent feel from the steering – which for once has some weight to it and is not overtly light – the Ignis can be a nice point-and-shoot kind of car, ideal for the intended urban use it is designed for. At higher speeds on the highway, the Ignis maintains its composure and remains planted even on bumpy roads.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Safety

The car features disc brakes at the front and drum at the rear. They are good but performance is not exceptional, however, in hard braking conditions, the vehicle doesn’t feel unnerved to stop in a straight line. The car can do better if fitted with wider set of tyres. ABS which is standard comes to rescue only in hard braking conditions, especially in emergency.Other standard fitment includes dual airbags, ISOFIX rear child seat mount, speed sensing auto door lock and driver seat belt reminder. Other key features include rear parking sensors with rear parking camera, rear defogger and rear wiper.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Verdict

The Ignis is really a car that’s aimed at a specific audience than for mass appeal. And it does a good job of standing apart with unique features and styling that’s fresh, young and lively. The sprightly performance with optional convenience of an automatic further seals the deal for many young adults who’ll choose this car as their primary vehicle. The wide price band for the car aims to fit into various budgets and individual preferences however, we’re hopeful that the AMT option will be extended to the a fully-decked up Alpha trim.
